Embracing my Essence

Updated: Dec 29, 2020

My Kent crew (hubby and babies) literally bring out the best in me. Before they came into my life, I struggled with being open and letting myself shine through. I was too busy living life trying to be what was expected of me. I grew up thinking I needed to accomplish this or that in order to define my success. Now that I am older, I look at life a little different. I realized trying to live up to someone else’s expectations of you can cause you to lose yourself in the process. Some people, like me, eventually get back to who they are; but others may not be so lucky. They go through life confused, lost, and never content. They continuously seek for something to fill the emptiness, not realizing all it takes is for them to embrace their essence. They continuously find guidance in others before consulting God or even themselves. Everyone has a different definition of success, so why try to define your success according to everyone else's terms?

I have finally been able to establish my own definition of success. Out of all the things I have accomplished, that may be considered success to some, I find success in my family. I have opened myself up to my own expectations and possibilities. My loves not only embrace it, they encourage and support it as well. They have never set expectations for me. They allow me to embrace my own abilities. I am far from perfect, but their unconditional love shows otherwise. They help me conquer my mistakes, and continue to embrace me with their love. When you live life trying to accomplish others goals for yourself, you realize the love is conditional. As soon as you make a mistake or decide against it, the love goes out the window.

I’ve said all that to say this. Your essence is what defines you. No one else can acquire that same definition. God created us uniquely different, but desired the same for us all. He wants us to embrace the life he has given us no questions asked. You control your destiny, so stop letting others tell you who you should be. Your essence is beautiful! Embrace it and live it! Remember to always keep God first and be beautifully you!
