Officially A Soccer Mom

Updated: Dec 29, 2020

Yup, it's official. I'm a soccer mom. Jai has started his first organized sport and we look forward to it every Sunday. It was a little rough starting out because my little guy tends to be a little shy. Ever since he was a baby, he just never took to meeting new people very well. Let's just say that he only liked mommy and daddy at one point. He wasn't too open to strangers. He is the type of child who doesn't like to feel uncomfortable and when he does, he let's it be known. He do not like uncomfortable situations.

His first game was a struggle because he didn't know anyone. He was being forced to meet new people and it made him very uncomfortable. Let's just say he wasn't having it (lol). I had to personally ask one of the mothers to allow me to introduce my son to hers so he can feel as if he is getting a new friend. Thankfully she was all for it. It really helped. As each game goes by, he is becoming more and more open to the concept of playing the game and he congratulates and encourages each of his teammates by name. We still have room for improvement, but I have learned that you can't force something on a child. You have to let them grasp the concept at their own pace.

Now this pic above I just wanted to show. I didn't realize I got all the African American fathers on his team in the same pic coaching their boys. I feel that our men are being belittled and completely neglected when it comes to recognition of good. There are bad seeds in every race but I feel it is definitely magnified when it comes to African American men. How they are portrayed on television, media, and presented in the news can be very discouraging. The men in the above pic, including the hubby, has been at every game instilling principles into their sons that goes beyond sports. It is a beautiful site to see. I just wanted to take the time to recognize a few good men.

Well that is all I have for you today. The hubby and I are very proud of our shy little guy. He is a naturally athletic little guy who doesn't take life so serious. He just live to enjoy life and we love that about him. He's only 3 but he has taught me so much already. Parents, leave some of your tips or experiences below on how you encourage your child to try new things. Remember to always keep God first and to be beautifully you. Embrace the beauty in others as well.
